ENGINEER, PENSADO'S PLACE

Grammy Award-winning engineer Dave Pensado (Beyoncé, Macy Gray, Mary J. Blige) gives some tips on stereo widening, including his thoughts on NUGEN’s Stereoizer plug-in

An industry giant

Dave Pensado is one of the most recognisable names in music production, a prolific mix engineer and founder of the well-known web series, Pensado’s Place.

As a result, Pensado is able to spend time with most plug-ins on the market, and Stereoizer is one which seems to have stuck.

Stereoizer creates a powerfully wide stereo image, whilst retaining excellent mono-compatibility and not introducing unwanted artifacts.

For almost any mix

“I love Stereoizer. Since I’ve had it I think I can honestly say that I’ve used it on maybe every mix I’ve done since then, but for sure like 75% at least.”

Bass in focus

Stereoizer allows you to keep bass frequencies in mono; “I’m not a fan of panning low end information, so from about 120-160Hz down, there’s no rules, but I prefer usually to have that more mono.”

Working with the ear

“One of the things I like about Stereoizer is each side contributes different things, and each side addresses the way that the human ear determines width.”

"You can do so much with this plug-in, the dynamics section alone is worth the price of entry."
